exactly.

and not everyone is prepared to maintain their own domain in order to
get this ;-)

this at least makes identity a distinct field, while leaving the
semantics of "Matthew (at home)" a little murky/flexible ;-)
julian? any suggestions for ontologically-correct naming here? i'd
really like to publish the ticker-3.0 draft protocol ASAP ...

me too. i like that level of abstraction.

well -- while we all agreed on "group" for ticker, "channel" is still
possible. perhaps it's worth using "channel" in ticker to support
this distinction? i think i prefer "group" over "domain" enough to
move from "group" to "channel" for ticker. maybe?
what other words might work to describe a collection of "buddy"s (i
fear that word is entrenched now) ? i had a chat to Louise and we
came up with (in no particular order or recommendation):
clan, tribe, gang, posse, pack, team
others? anyone?

always ;-)

i defintely agree. something automatic is really important.

i think that's reasonable.
